1. ABVP AS A STUDENT MOVEMENT

ABVP is a student movement that considers student power as Nation’s Power. All sections of society are aware that today’s student is today’s citizen and not tomorrow’s. ABVP works in educational campuses like colleges and universities. The students there become the karyakatas of ABVP. It is the firm belief of the ABVP that the student community of any nation contributes to the society in its happy and difficult times and virtually experiences the stress and strain from pushes and pulls of the society. The student also faces and contributes equally in facing challenges and difficulties in front of the society like terrorism, corruption, infiltration, natural calamities, problems related to education and so on.   Hence student is the citizen of today

On 11th Sept 1990 10,000 students responded to the call given by the ABVP to lodge a demonstration in Jammu to fulfil the demand that Kashmir was an integral part of India and to reinstate the insult meted out to Indian National flag. During natural calamities like Tsunami, cyclone in Orrisa, earthquakes and the like the students of the ABVP worked day and night in the relief operations.

Today India is faced with many challenges and we have included them for discussions and resolutions in all the sessions that will be held during the conference.

Corruption can be described as a gigantic monster that is eating into the ethics, character and all dimensions of public life. Apart from all this it is but natural for the ABVP to address the issues of social inequality, educational problems and so on. Lot of efforts are underway though not adequate. As we are all aware that the tribal citizens of India are still living in inhuman circumstances, Terrorism has been an enemy of the humanity and innocent people are being killed everywhere including India. There have been innumerable movements against corruption worldwide but more needs to be done. The list of challenges facing India in general and student community in particular is massive but this should not deter us from taking up these issues one by one and fight against them.

2. RASSERTION OF THE RESOLVE TO BUILD A RAM TEMPLE AT THE RAMJANMABHUMI IN AYODHYA

Amidst these great predicament before the nation it is pertinent to discuss the challenge to National integrity and Unity. The thought of National integrity and Unity is not something that can be achieved by enacting a law or proposing a theory or presenting a paper or discussion in a seminar or in a news paper publication. It is an experience of unity in diversity, a cultural exuberance, a spiritual expression of the soul of India, and an expression of great experiences of the Indian rishis. It is a tradition of spiritual transcendence and it has only a single form of existence impregnated in the culture of Indian people.  Oneness cannot be created it is an inherited faith. To illustrate this we can see that even an illiterate citizen of India living in a remote village, who has not had a glimpse of his capital city, expresses his desire to have a dip in the Holy Ganges, visit the Cchaturdham (undertake pilgrimage to the quadret holy places), Kashi, Kanyakumari  Rameshwaram, Kedarnath Badrinath and so on. There are innumerable examples of great people who spent their lives in experiencing this oneness, Sri Shankara set out on this mission from Kaladi in Kerala at an young age, Narendranath set out from Calcutta on a similar mission to become Swami Vivekananda. Mahatma Gandhi set out on the mission of freedom struggle in the same way after getting initiated from his guru Sri Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Hence from ages we have inherited this incredible asset of the stream of cultural oneness. This is also exemplified in Indian traditional congregations like Kumbh Mela. An Indian inspite of countless physical hurdles experiences immense sense of gratification by visiting holy places like Amarnath, Kashi, Rameshwaram and so on.

The long awaited verdict of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was pronounced on 30th Sept. 2010. This historical verdict witnessed countless sessions of arguments, change of many judges (transfer), got repetition of hearings and the advocates still having more to argue. Many people accept legal opinions and the Ramjanmabhumi movement got a legal approval with the verdict. If not everything the verdict establishes   three points as follows (1) There was a temple in the Ramjanmabhumi. (2) Ramlalla will reside there and his regular worship will persist unabated and (3) Approval of faith and belief of the nation in the existence of a deity and thus the idol representing Lord Sri Ram and the land where it is situated is therefore sacred. The whole movement began in 1990. In  6th Dec 1992 the Babri Masjid Ramjanmabhumi structure was demolished when most of the youth were still infants. Ayodhya apart from being the abode of Lord Sri Ram is the birth place of five Jain Tirthankaras, Guru Nank, Guru Gobind Singh and many great people. It is not just a temple for some Rambhakts. Without Lord Sri Ram India has a partial existence and is a symbol of National Identity. There is no India without Lord Sri Ram. Since times immemorial people at Ayodhya have been propounding that a temple existed at the place of Ramjanmabhumi. This temple was destroyed by invader Babur. Later in 1949 Ralalla reappeared and his worship commenced. In 1959 Nirmohi Akhara claimed management rights of the temple and in 1969 thye Sunni Wakf board put forth the argument that there is was a mosque. The Supreme court had also instituted an scientific study involving representatives from Hindus and Muslims, by the Archaeological Survey of India which ultimately proved the existence of a temple at the location. This is also demonstrating the fact that no nation can go against the belief of its citizens and their tradition. There have been no examples of such demeanour in any part of the world when their rulers have gone against their tradition. There can only be one Ramjanmabhumi and it represents Indian integrity and identity. It is not a simple fight between Hindus and muslims as projected by some politicians and the media. Even Father of our nation has expressed this view. To quote from Mahatma Gandhi’s article published on 27th July 1937 in Navjeevan “ It is evident that most of the religious places of Hindus were destroyed and looted by the Muslim rulers of India. An endeavour wherein both the communities can come forward and return back the places of worship under their control because of a mistake committed in the history will be a unique opportunity to instil oneness among Indian people” This is another opportunity for people of India to build a magnificent Ram Temple there and reassert their unity  like in 1857 when all of us got together forgetting our differences to fight the British. The British sowed the seed of divide among Indian people and partitioned the country  and Unfortunately this divide still persists. Criminal conspirators who do not want unification call this as a communal conflict. It is our Resolve that a RAM MANDIR WILL BE BUILT AT THE RAMJANMABHUMI in AYODHYA.

3. KASHMIR AS INSEPARABLE PART OF INDIA

The success of temple at the Ramjanmabhumi will be incomplete if there is a grave situation of separation of Kashmir from India. Though emotion is necessary for unity we should understand the logical dimensions of the problem to put it forward in the college and University campuses. Today Kashmir issue is at cross roads. When was Kashmir not a part of India? It is evident from the history that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of political as well as cultural India since Times immemorial. The resolution of Kashmir’s accession to India was accepted on 26th Oct 1947 and Lord Mountbatten the then Governor General of India accepted this on 27th Oct 1947. In 1951 the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir accepted the state as a part of India. On 6th Feb 1954the Jammu and Kashmir constitution committee passed a resolution declaring the state to be a part of India. and in 1957 the Legislative Assembly promulgated an ordinance to this effect under article 370 of the constitution and articles 3 & 4 of the constitution of  Jammu and Kashmir declares the state as an inseparable part of India. In fact all the domains under the rule Maharaja Hari Singh had acceded to India including POK. It is unfortunate that the Central Government is considering self rule, autonomy and independence put forward by a handful of separatists, media and intellectuals without taking into confidence other sections of society like Sikhs, Buddhists etc belonging to Jammu and Kashmir and the displaced Kashmiri Hindu Pundits. This is clearly playing into vote bank politics and minority appeasement. Demonstration of protest against people like Arundati Roy and Geelani is an expression of patriotism because they have been making irresponsible anti-national statements in different fora.

CALL TO THE YOUTH OF INDIA AND ABVP

The pseudo secular forces are destroying the National Identity and abusing the soul of India by creating the bogey of Saffron Terrorism and implicating nationalistic forces including the Rastreeya Swayam Sevak Sangh that has been involved in the service of the nation since decades. It is a political conspiracy to denigrate and suppress expressions of national identity and weaken nationalistic forces. They are trying to invoke the views of associates of Hitler by trying to convert a lie into truth by repeating the lie for a hundred times. Any number of attempts will not help them succeed in their evil designs. The Nationalistic forces will not accept anything less than a Ram Temple at Ramjanmabhumi in Ayodhya and indivisibility of Kashmir from India and they are ready for any amount of sacrifice and struggle. These people are trying to push misinterpretations of historical facts, legal propositions and constitutional statues to fulfil their wicked intentions. It is therefore necessary to carry forward this fight in a multidimensional way viz. field, judiciary, executive, politics, media and so on. The common man need to be educated and trained to fight such obnoxious antinational campaign. Therefore let us resolve, not to rest until, we succeed in defeating the antinational forces through activism and be prepared for any sacrifice to re-establish India as one motherland for all Indians.

ABVP DECLARES WAR ON CORRUPTION

Address by Prof Milind Marathe

Expressed his awe on the compositon of the audience in the 56th National conference of the ABVP where each and every district of India has been represented including Andaman, Iphal, Sikkim, North East,Nepal and students from foreign countries studying in India, including  Iran and Bangladesh. He compared the audience to a “Laghu Bharath”and regretted the absence of Smt Vandana Shiva in witnessing this picture. He covered the following topics.

  1. What is ABVP

He recalled the year 1948 when ABVP was established and said that ABVP is reliving a meaningful existence of  more than 60 years in having heralded a strong student organization. Elaborating on the objectives of ABVP he said, building an ideal student movement for the nation in initiating a model student revolution that addresses different problems of India in the backdrop of a wider context of National reconstruction, student activism and establish a student community which is above the partisan politics. Unlike trade unions, It is an organization which does not confine itself only to the interests of the student community. It believes that a student is the citizen of today and not tomorrow and is destined to play a conclusive role in the social, cultural, political and national dimensions of Indian society.

  1. Achievements of ABVP in 60 years

ABVP has contributed a time tested and live philosophy of student movements that can be implemented in any part of the world. It is a permanent organization with unique permanent fabric of a floating student population. It has propounded the importance of an Indian educational model than a western one in solving problems plaguing Indian educational system.

  1. Against Bangladeshi infiltration

ABVP undertook a systemic and a scientific survey of the whole of the north east and about 4000 kms of Indian border with Bangladesh and brought to the social awareness the dangers of Bangladeshi infiltration. About 40,000 students of ABVP demonstrated in the chicken neck and demanded detection and deportation of Bangladeshi infiltrates. ABVP also warned the Government about the dangers of Unique Identification card scheme that would help in  legalizing illegal migrants in the country

  1. Against Naxalism : ABVP volunteers have worked in the interiors of naxal infested states of chattisgarh and have urged the naxals to shun violence.
  2. Against Terrorism: ABVP had organized the then largest student demonstration in support of the resolve that Jammu and Kashmir is final and irreversible and reasserts its commitment again in this issue

The students experience in interstate living  (SEIL)is an example of National unity and through World Organization of Students and Youth ABVP has set the example of the first student organization to have thought of unity beyond the borders of a country.

  1. Current Situation: There is a need to curb commercialization of education and called for massive investment by the state and the central governments in increasing the gross enrolment ratio to 15%. ABVP is against commercialization of education by corporate houses, foreign and deemed universities. There is a need to reduce the tuition fee in government institutions and follow the Gujarat model where the fee in Govt. Engineering colleges is only 2000 Rs even today. The fee is not affordable by the middle class also.  Commercialization leads to under staff, unqualified staff, poor infrastructure, and other problems. ABVP is against profiteering in education and protests the entry of foreign and deemed universities.

ABVP condemns the statement of the J & K chief Minister Sri Omar Abdullah that J & K had not merged with India and also the views of Arundati Roy, Geelani and the govt. sent interlocutors that independence of Kashmir is the only solution to the Kashmir problem.

With the scams getting unfolded layer by layer, the current instances, including the 78 crores loot in the CWG scam, 1.78 lakh crores loot in the 2G spectrum grand scam and the Adarsh Housing society scam, the corrupt functioning style of the government has been laid bare once again. ABVP is clear in its opinion that the ongoing sequence of events at the national stage is an ample proof to the fact that the 2G scam does not merely involve some bureaucrats or ministers rather; the Prime Minister and his office are equally guilty. This is evident from the sequence of events starting from, Janata Party President Subramanyam Swamy’s letter to Prime Minister’s office (PMO), holding the file by PMO for two years deliberately, without replying and the PMO falling in line after serious comments from the Supreme Court questioning its silence on the letter consequential to the filing of the affidavit. These events implicate not only the prime Minister directly. The central Government should shed their adamancy of shamelessness and accept the demand of the opposition for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the scam and contribute in bringing out the truth. The Nira Radia tapes not only expose the corruption but also brings out what looks like a key role played by the industry, bureaucracy, journalists and brokers like Nira Radia in deciding, who will become a minister, allocation of portfolios to the ministers and their fate. ABVP urges to bring to book and charge with sedition journalist like against all those who are corrupt and involved in scams including Bureaucrats, Leaders, Politicians, Barkha Dutt and Vir Singhvi of the media, A Raja, Suresh Kalmadi and others involved in corruption. ‘Mr. Clean’ image of Dr. Manmohan Singh looks tainted in the background of the following developments; Comments by the Supreme Court that the 2G spectrum scam puts to shame all other previous scams, the magnitude of the scams and silence of the central Government on these issues.

  1. Climate Change

ABVP has been in the forefront of taking up issues of climate change and depleting natural resources. ABVP announces that it will take up it vigour the issues of Jan (People), Jal (water), Janwar (animals), jungle (forest) and Jameen (Land). These issues have not been old to ABVP. 20 yrs ago we had undertaken Vruksharopan (aforestation) and hereby assure the nation that we will take up developmental models of sustainable climate change. Through the ABVP sponsored forum called Students for Development.

We promise to address the problems faced by the nation sincerely and with extreme enthuisiasm and we know that inspite of this there is lot to be done and I request the youth and society to strengthen us in this regard.

Address by RAMA JOIS

Justice Rama jois highlighted three aspects; Education, National Security and Corruption. He called for measures to change the system of education that can bring out men of character in society because it is apparent that most of the corrupt in the nation are well educated people. He described India as a duty based society than right based. He called for measures to include this Indian philosophy in Indian constitution. He gave a call to the youth of the country to reject wealth that is contrary to dharma or righteousness and lauded ABVP’s efforts in national reconstruction. He said the situation in Kashmir was as a result of wrong policies by the first Prime Minister of India and statements by people like Omar Abdullah. He gave a call to the youth and ABVP to declare war on corruption and work towards including the word Bharateeya instead of India in the political, executive and Judicial domains of India because it conveys the emotional and cultural meaning thus binding the people in one thread.

Address by PRABHUDEVA in his address as the chief guest described ABVP as the premier Nationalistic organization of the world. He described India as a great nation with strong cultural heritage and ethical behavior and gave a call to the youth to develop ethical behavior in their character. He said that there is a rapid growth in Higher education in India but none of Indian Universities appear in the first 100 best universities. Only 9% of Indian colleges have been graded as ‘A’ by the accreditation bodies. This is because that there has been serious compromise in quality education by the universities giving way for commercialization of higher education. Our university training does not fulfill skill requirements and employability of our graduates. This is generally done by the corporate honchos. There is a need for the entry of industry into education minus profiteering and commercialization. We have to learn from USA because the reason for them to dominate the world is a very strong education system. 8 out of 10 best Universities are in USA. He gave a call to the youth and ABVP to initiate a strong student movement that can help India catapult into a country that matches international standards of education.

MEDIA REPORTS:

1. ‘QUALITY ASSURANCE IN EDUCATION NEEDED’
BANGALORE: Commercialization of education, corruption and national security were the issues that took centre stage during the inaugural programme of the 56th National Convention of Akhila Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Milind Marathe, national president, ABVP, said that while students in Gujarat only pay a fee of Rs 2,000 for an engineering seat, in other states it ranges between Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000. “Education has become unaffordable for the poor,” he said.
He added that ABVP was not against privatization of education, but the exercise has been rendering education a commercial outlook. There is no transparency, scholarships, research or social commitment, he said.

Speaking at the occasion, Bangalore University vice chancellor N Prabhu Dev said: “We need teachers from abroad to stay and teach here. International universities that are coming to India are primarily second and third tier institutions. India should aspire for international standards and adopt international syllabi.”

Adding that no Indian university figured in the world’s top universities’ list, Prabhu Dev said only 32% of the varsities that applied for a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation were awarded the A grade. A chunk of 52% was awarded B grade, while the remaining 16% got a C. “NAAC assessment further indicates that 68% of the colleges are rated as `B’ while another 23% as C grade. Only 9% are under the `A’ grade. Thus, quality assurance in higher education is the need of the hour,” he stressed.

Underlining that ABVP is against the Unique Identification (UID) project, Milind questioned: “Whom are the UIDs given to? I thought it was for the citizens of India. But, UID is given to those who are staying in this nation. UID has become instrumental in legalizing illegal migrants.”  (TOI)

2. ABVP meet kicks off in city

BANGALORE: Thousands of students from various parts of the country thronged the city as the National Conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) kick started on Saturday.

“In its 56th edition, this is our biggest conference ever. There are about 10,000 student participating with about 1,000 girls from the country and from Nepal,” said ABVP National President Milind S Marathe. “As many as 60 students from the neighbouring nation are participating at the conference.”

The dayone of the conference showcased a picture exhibition of the work done by ABVP activists and an awareness messages to the members and the general public.

This was followed by flag hoisting and a chorus recital of Vande Mataram. Synchronised to perfection, the voices of hundreds of students reverberated the sense of national pride and patriotism.

High on the agenda of the fourday conference are deliberations on Naxalism, terrorism, educational reforms and corruption.

“There is great disparity between the fee structures in government educational institutes of all states of the country. It hurts students from economicallyweaker sections very badly,” said ABVP National Secretary N Ravikumar. “We will take a resolution about the issue. Resolutions against Naxalism, terrorism and debates on foreign universities entering the country will also be taken.”

For the first time, the meet will also discuss on eight course disciplines.

“We are going to submit a memorandum to the state and the Centre,” said Marathe. “We will also demand hostel facilities in government educational institutes, as per the Supreme Court statute.”

Delegates from Nepal, Mauritius, Singapore and Malaysia, among a few other foreign countries, are also attending the event. (Indian Express)

3. Poor quality of higher education tops agenda at ABVP meet

Education topped the theme at the 56th national conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), held on Sunday at the Central College cricket grounds, as debates ensued between dignitaries regarding the poor quality of Indian higher education which has miles to go to reach international standards, and the incomparable fee structure which takes education to the classes, rather than the masses.

“The increased enrolment of students is eroding the quality of education. No Indian university figures among the top one hundred universities,” said N Prabhu Dev, vice chancellor of Bangalore University.

“We are producing a large number of mere pass-outs, not anywhere near the world standards,” he added.

Pointing out to the accreditation of universities he said, “It is disappointing to see that of the universities who got accredited by the NAAC, only 32% could get an A grade, while another 52% of them managed a B grade. The remaining 16 per cent fall in the C grade. Further assessment by the NAAC indicates that 68% of colleges are rated as B while another 23% colleges are rated as C, and only nine per centhave an A grade rating. The immediate need of the hour is quality education.”

“The high fee structure at the college level is responsible for the loss of talent. At the current cost for education, even middle-class families are finding it difficult to fund the education of their children,” said Milind Marathe, national president of ABVP, Mumbai. (DNA)
