Griham Griham Prati Samskritam- Nationwide Home Contact Program –
BENGALURU: Samskrita Bharati is an entirely volunteer driven non-profit organization that has ceaselessly strived for the propagation of the Samskrit language. Founded in 1981, this organization has trained over 1,00,000 volunteers in Samskrit instruction. With 3,300 centres in India, Samskrita Bharati is active across 39 countries. Known for its scientific and effective methods of Samskrit instruction, Samskrita Bharati has trained over 9 million people in conversational Samskrit.
The government of India has designated the full-moon day i.e., Purnima of the Indian month of Shraavana as Sanskrit Day (Samskrita-Dinam). A week around that day, in this case from August 26 to September 1, is celebrated as Sanskrit Week.
On account of this event, Samskrita Bharati has instituted a Nationwide Home Contact Program “Griham Prati Samskritam” to ensure that the Ganga of Samskrit reaches every home on Sunday, August 23, 2015.
There is a popular misconception that Samskrit is restricted to temples, mathas, colleges and universities. This movement attempts to clear that, aiming to bring Samskritam to every home in India. The salient objectives of this mega movement are:
- To show the world that Samskritam is not just living but a thriving language
- To demonstrate the relevance of Samskritam in the modern world
- To disabuse society of inaccurate notions about Samskritam
- To show that Samskritam is beyond barriers of caste, religion, gender and financial status
- To bring about unity in society through Samskritam
- To spread the fragrance of Indian Wisdom through Samskritam
- To spread awareness about what an individual could do to nurture Indian Culture
To enable its volunteers to directly experience the feelings that Samskritam evokes in society To achieve these aims, volunteers from Samskrita Bharati and like-minded organizations will visit as many homes to directly interact with families on Sunday, 23 August 2015 across India. An introductory pamphlet on the importance of Samskritam and the role of Samskrita Bharati will be distributed. Interested people can buy a booklet on basic Samskrit education from visiting volunteers. Information on key programmes of Samskrita Bharati such as Conversation Camps (Shibirams), Correspondence Courses, and children’s centres will be shared. Those desirous of protecting and nurturing Samskritam can all be part of this movement. This day long contact programme will also help those who wish to learn Samskritam but do not know how. A copy of the pamphlet to be distributed along with the booklet are kept along with this publication for use by the press community.
