BKS Iyengar
Bangalore/New Delhi Aug 20: Renowned Yoga guru B K S Iyengar, 96, died at a Pune hospital at 3.15 a.m. this morning. He was suffering from kidney failure and had been undergoing dialysis.
Born on December 14, 1918 at Bellur village in Kolar district in Karnataka, Iyengar is credited with popularising yoga across the country as well as abroad.His yoga style is widely practised and aternatively referred to as the ‘BKS School’ or the ‘Iyengar School’.
Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, or BKS as he was popularly referred to as, was honoured with several awards and accolades including Padmashri, Padmabhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Kannada Rajyotsava award among others.
The 96-year-old Iyengar had been ailing for some time and was admitted to a private hospital in Pune August 12 and was put on dialysis after his condition worsened two days ago.

जन्म लेने वाले की मृत्यु निश्चित है, परन्तु जिन्होंने जनकल्याण के श्रेष्ठ हेतु के लिये अपना जीवन समर्पित कर दिया हो, ऐसी विभूतियों के निधन से गहरा दुःख होना स्वाभाविक है.
योग भारत द्वारा विश्व को दिया गया एक अमूल्य उपहार है. श्रद्धेय योगाचार्य बी के एस आयंगर जी के देह विलय से हमने आधुनिक संसार के एक महान योग प्रवर्तक को खो दिया है. सार्वजनिक जीवन की इस क्षति तथा रिक्तता से हुआ दुःख अवर्णनीय है.
हम सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर से दिवंगत आत्मा को चिर-शान्ति प्रदान करने तथा उनके परिवार और विश्व भर में फैले हुए अनुयायियों-हितैषियों को इस अपूरणीय क्षति को सहन करने के लिये शक्ति प्रदान करने की प्रार्थना करते हैं. राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के समस्त स्वयंसेवकों की ओर से मैं उन महान आत्मा को विनम्रता पूर्वक श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करता हूं.
