Udupi, Karnataka: RSS Senior Swayamsevak, former Governor of Nagaland, Tripura and Assam Sri Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya passed away on 10 November, 2023 at his home at Andheri, Mumbai.
About P B Acharya :
Sri Padmanabha Acharya was born on 8th October, 1931 at Udupi, Karnataka. After his gradution from MGM College, Udupi as a first batch student of that college, he went to Mumbai and worked for Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He also completed his L.L.b Course from Mumbai University.
Being an active Karyakartha of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) he also been in jail for 6 months during the ban on RSS by Government in 1948. Later in 1980 he joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Because of his multi faceted capabilities he had led the various roles in the Party and in 1991 he was elected as national executive member of BJP in charge of the North Eastern States. From 1995 – 2005 he was All India national secretary of the BJP and in-charge of North Eastern States. He also served as the national incharge for SC/ST Morcha, Co-convenor of the Overseas Friends of BJP and the National Prabhari of North East India Samparka Cell.
Sri Acharya was the Governor of the state Nagaland from 14 July 2014 to 31 July 2019. He was also the Governor of the state Tripura from 21 July 2014 – 19 May 2015, Governor of Assam from 12 December 2014 – 17 August 2016. And as an Additional Charge he was also served as a Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. He was the second person from Coastal Karnataka to become a Governor.

We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and countless admirers of Shri Acharya. Shri Padmanabh ji was an ardent Swayamsevak and a deeply committed public worker. As president of ABVP, he introduced many novel activities, and also served Mumbai University on its senate. Shri Acharya contributed his best in various fields like education, national integration, culture, sewa and development. He made wide contacts of prominent people for the nationalist cause particularly in the North Eastern region. North East region- people, society, land, culture and economy etc- were very dear to him. He strove tirelessly for their betterment. His role as governor will be fondly cherished by the people.
