More than 10,000 Sanskrit Scholars from across the world and over 150 publishers from 14 countries will participate in the World Sanskrit Book Fair to be held at Bangalore Karnataka from January 7, 8, 9 and10 of 2011. Samskruta Bharati, an organization for Samskrit speaking-learning activities will be organizing this mega event at Bangalore.

A World Samskrit Book Fair is organized from January 7th to 10th 2011 in Bengaluru jointly by All the Samskrit Universities, Government of Karnataka, Samskrit Academies, Oriental Research Institutes, International Association for Samskrit Studies, National Manuscript Mission, Samskrita Bharati and other NGOs working in the field of Samskrit. Such a Samskrit Book Fair is being organized for the first time in the history.
Due to the advent and popularity of Indian knowledge systems like Yoga, Ayurveda, Vedanta, Bhagavadgita etc. all over the world during the last few decades, there is a renewed interest in learning Samskrit language, the key to the treasure house of Indian Knowledge Tradition. This sudden spurt is also due to the people’s longing to go back to the roots, and to access the primary sources. With this background, and to make Samskrit books available at one place, the World Samskrit Book Fair (WSBF) is arranged. Not only books in Samskrit, but books on Samskrit literature in all the Indian languages will also be showcased in the WSBF.
14 Samskrit Universities including Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan under MHRD, Govt. of India, 120 Samskrit PG Depts. of General Universities, 16 Oriental Research Institutes, 7 Sanskrit Academies, a few dozen NGOs and about 100 Publishers will be participating in the Book Fair. Participants are also expected from about 20 countries.
The venue will be National High School grounds, Basavanagudi. As part of the Book Fair, there will be a three day National Conference of Samskrit scholars, a large Exhibition on “Knowledge Heritage of India” and cultural programs in the evenings. 1008 Samskrita Sambhashana Shibirams (10 Days’ Speak Samskrit Classes) in 1008 places of Bangaluru city will be organized as a prelude to Book Fair, where in about 30,000 people are expected to learn Samskrit. About 10,000 delegates are expected to participate in the conference and about 2 lakh visitors would visit the Fair.
One of the objectives of the Book Fair is to give a fillip to Modern Samskrit Literature and to produce and publish Samskrit Learning Material based on new methods and approaches to language learning. Efforts towards this end are already going on in different parts of the country and a few hundred new books, CDs and DVDs would be released in the Book Fair.
Scholars of international repute will participate in the Conference, which would high light the ancient solutions for the modern problems, the relevance of Samskrit in the Knowledge Driven Globe. Samskrit being the common pan Indian cultural language, this Book Fair and the conference would be an ideal occasion to experience the national integration and national harmony. Both the conference and the exhibition would show to the world the secular and harmonizing facets of Samskrit literature and the Samskrit community.
Samskrit language is complementary to all the Indian languages, Kannada in particular. Hence the Book Fair would also showcase the contribution of Karnataka, Kannada language in particular, for the growth of Samskrit and Samskriti. Books in Kannada, related to Samskrit literature will also be published. Efforts are being made to translate famous Kannada works into Samskrit and publish them during the Book Fair.
The Karnataka Samskrit University and other Samskrit institutions of Karnataka are also actively working for the success of the Book Fair. Dept. of Higher Education, Dept. of Primary and Secondary Education, Dept of Kannada and Culture of Government of Karnataka have assured their fullest support for the Book Fair.

ದೇಶದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಗಳು, ಪ್ರಾಚ್ಯ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಂಘಟನೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ತಾಳೆಗರಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾನ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾರತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಇತರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು (NGO) ಸೇರಿ ಜಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ೨೦೧೧ ರ ಜನವರಿ ೭ ರಿಂದ ೧೦ ರ ತನಕ ‘ವಿಶ್ವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳ’ ವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮೈದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮೇಳವನ್ನು ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳವು ದೇಶದ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಏರ್ಪಟ್ಟು ಚರಿತ್ರಾರ್ಹವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಯೋಗ, ಆಯುರ್ವೇದ, ವೇದಾಂತ, ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜ್ಞಾನವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯ ಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಅಂಗಗಳು. ಇವುಗಳ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತಿಯಿಂದ ಕಳೆದ ಕೆಲವು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜ್ಞಾನನಿಧಿಯ ಕೀಲಿಕೈಯಂತಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯಲು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯು ಕಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಮಯಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿಯು ಬೇರನ್ನು ಶೋಧಿಸಿ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೂಲವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಜನರ ಹಂಬಲದಿಂದಲೂ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಲು ‘ವಿಶ್ವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳವನ್ನು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೇಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳೂ ಸಹ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ.
ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಮಂತ್ರಾಲಯದ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನವೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ೧೪ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳ ೧೨೦ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳು, ೧೬ ಪ್ರಾಚ್ಯಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು, ೭ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಅಕಾಡಮಿಗಳು, ಕೆಲವು ಖಾಸಗಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸುಮಾರು ೧೦೦ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕಮೇಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ೨೦ ದೇಶಗಳಿಂದ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವರೆಂದು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಮೈದಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮೇಳವನ್ನು ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳದ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ ೩ ದಿನಗಳ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನವನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಭಾರತದ ಜ್ಞಾನಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಂಬಿಸುವ ಬೃಹತ್ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿನಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸಹ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲದ ವೇಳೆ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸವಿಯನ್ನೂ ಅನುಭವಿಸಬಹುದು. ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ನವಂಬರ್ ಡಿಶಂಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದ ೧೦೦೮ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ೧೦ ದಿನಗಳ ೧೦೦೮ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಂಭಾಷಣಾ ಶಿಬಿರಗಳನ್ನು ಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ೩೦,೦೦೦ ಜನರು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತವನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ. ಸುಮಾರು ೧೦,೦೦೦ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳು ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವರೆಂದು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಸುಮಾರು ೨ ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನರು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಬರುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದೆ.
ನವೀನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಕೊಡುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯಲು ಹೊಸ ವಿಧಿ ವಿಧಾನಗಳನ್ನೂ ತಂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಕಲಿಕೆಯ ಸಾಮಾಗ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನು ತಯಾರಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಾಶನ ಪಡಿಸುವುದು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕಮೇಳದ ಉದ್ದಿಶ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ದಿಶೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶದ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳು ನಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ನೂರಾರು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳೂ, CD, DVD ಗಳೂ, ಆಗಿಆಗಳು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿವೆ.
ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪುರಾತನವಾದ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಈ ಭೂಮಂಡಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಞಾನದೀವಿಗೆಯಾದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದ ಸ್ಥಾನದ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತತೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತವು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಪುಸ್ತಕಮೇಳ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನಗಳು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಭಾವೈಕ್ಯತೆಯ ಅನುಭವಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಒಂದು ಆದರ್ಶ ಸುಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ಮತ್ತು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳೆರಡೂ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಜಾತ್ಯತೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾವೈಕ್ಯತೆಯ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಪಂಚಕ್ಕೆ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯು ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳವು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿಕೊಡುವುದು, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟ ಅನೇಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಸುಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕನ್ನಡ ಲೇಖಕರ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಕ್ಕೆ ಭಾಷಾಂತರಿಸಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕಮೇಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿವೆ.
ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳೂ ಸಹ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳದ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ, ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ, ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೌಢಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಇಲಾಖೆ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಗಳು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೇಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಕೊಡಲು ಆಶ್ವಾಸನೆ ನೀಡಿವೆ.
