Bangalore August 1, 2012: “The anti- Emergency movement of gave birth to a journalist. He never studied Journalism as a student. But his response to the situations, social challenges at his time made him a better journalist, writer and later an editor. His is Du Gu Lakshman, a writer he has carved his own sculpture” said RSS Joint General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale at Bangalore.
He was addressing a select gathering at Rashtrotthana Parishat Bangalore in a programme to felicitate writer-editor Du Gu Lakshman, who turned 60 recently. The programme was organised by Vishwa Samvada Kendra- Karnataka, the Media Centre of RSS Karnataka.
Dattatreya Hosabale and Lakshman hails almost from same area, Soraba and Sringeri. They were close associates during anti-emergency movements. Both of them along with HV Sheshadri, KS Nagaraj penned down the memories of anti-emergency movements, resulted in a book named ‘Bhugilu’. Today, both of them shared their memories.
Arekere Jayaram, Former Chief of The Hindu, Bangalore, expressed his concerns on the declining values in contemporary journalism. He said “Working in an organisation-institute for almost 3 decades shows the institutional commitment. This is the need of the hour in journalism that professional ethics and social commitments should take first priority”
N Krishnappa, Senior RSS Pracharak shared his thoughts on Lakshman’s writings, commitment to the media house Hosadigantha he represented.
Du Gu Lakshman was felicitated by Dattatreya Hosabale, N Krishnappa and Arekere Jayaram.
RSS Senior functionaries Mai Cha Jayadev, Chandrashekhar Bhandari, V Nagaraj, Mukunda, Sudhir, Tippeswamy, Prof BV Sridhar Swamy, Shridhar Sagar, AS Nirmal Kumar, YK Raghavendra Rao, KS Nagaraj and top office bearers of Sanghparivar, like minded journalists participated in the ceremony.
