Vadtal, Gujrat: June 27, 2017. Eminent Oncologist Dr. Vijayalakshmi Deshamane has been elected as the President for VHP’s Karnataka Dakshina. This was announced in the VHP’s Kendriya Samiti Baithak which happened in Vadtal, Gujrat. She is the first woman to hold the President’s role of the VHP.
Having faced hardships in life from being a vegetable seller and leading life in slum with the family of ten members, Vijayalakshmi has the zeal of winning. Being born in the so called backward caste and the house in a slum, she was good in her studies in school. However with the condition of the home not so favorable for even having two square meals, she along with her brother had taken up selling vegetables walking miles. She had never dreamt of studying further than the twelfth standard for she knew the condition prevailing in the house. But her mother had made the sacrifice of her mangalya and was pledged to raise loans for her higher education. Vijayalakshmi got into KMC, Hubballi for her MBBS course. Though she had initial hiccups during the first year, Vijayalakshmi thru hard work and dedication could stand first in the University exams.
After her MBBS, Dr Vijayalakshmi pursued her MS in Surgery and grew as one of the most eminent oncologists of the country. She has had the credit of taking up many tough cases of cancers and is specialized in breast cancer. She has contributed as Vice President at the Karnataka Cancer Society.

ಖ್ಯಾತ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ರೋಗ ತಜ್ಞೆ ಡಾ. ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ದೇಶಮನೆ ವಿಶ್ವ ಹಿಂದೂ ಪರಿಷತ್ತಿನ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಪ್ರಾಂತದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗುಜರಾತಿನ ವಡತಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ವಿಎಚ್ಪಿಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಯ ಸಮಿತಿ ಬೈಠಕ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ವಾನುಮತದಿಂದ ಡಾ. ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ವಿಎಚ್ಪಿಯ ಮೊಟ್ಟಮೊದಲ ಮಹಿಳಾ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿರುವ ಡಾ. ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯವರ ಜೀವನದ ಹಾದಿ ಅಷ್ಟು ಸುಗಮವಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ತಥಾಕಥಿತ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ವರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ತರಕಾರಿ ಮಾರುವ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದವರು. ಇವರ ತಂದೆ ಬಾಬುರಾವ್ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಮದಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿತರಾದವರು ಹಾಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲ ಜನರ ಸಬಲೀಕರನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾರವಾದ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯುಳ್ಳವರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಶಾಲಾ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಿಂದ ವಂಚಿತರಾದರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಓದುವುದನ್ನು ಕಲಿತುಕೊಂಡವರು. ಏಳು ಸೋದರ ಸೋದರಿಯರ ಪೈಕಿ ಕಿರಿಯರಾದ ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯ ಬಾಲ್ಯ ಸಾಗಿದ್ದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗುಡಿಸಿಲಲ್ಲಿ. ನಿತ್ಯದ ಊಟಕ್ಕೂ ಹರಸಾಹಸಪಡುವ ದಯನೀಯ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಇವರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸುವ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ, ತಂದೆಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಆದಾಯದಿಂದ ಮನೆ ನಡೆಸುವುದು ಕಷ್ಟವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇವರ ತಾಯಿ ತರಕಾರಿ ಮಾರುವ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಅಣ್ಣನನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬುಟ್ಟಿ ಇರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಮನೆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ತರಕಾರಿ ಮಾರಿ ಹಣ ಗಳಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾದರೂ ಓದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರು ಸದಾ ಮುಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಮನೆಯ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯ ಅರಿವಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಹನ್ನೆರಡನೆಯ ತರಗತಿಗೆ ಕುಂಠಿತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆಂದು ಖಾತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ, ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಇವರ ತಾಯಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾಂಗಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಅಡವಿಟ್ಟು, ಅದರಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಹಣದಿಂದ ಇವರು ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟರು. ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿಯ ಕೆಎಂಸಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಇವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಏಕಾಏಕಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪಾಠಗಳು ಆರಂಭವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ವರ್ಷವೇ ಅನುತ್ತೀರ್ಣಗೊಂಡರು. ಆದರೆ ಶ್ರಮಪಡುವ, ಕಲಿಯುವ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ್ದ ಇವರ ಮನೋಸ್ಥೈರ್ಯ ಮುಂದಿನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ದರ್ಜೆಯಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ, ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲ ರ‍್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಪಡೆದು ಉತ್ತೀರ್ಣರಾದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಪೋಷಕರ, ಸೋದರರ ತ್ಯಾಗ, ಗುರುಗಳ ಸಹಾಯ, ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳ ಸಹಾಕಾರವನ್ನು ಬಹುವಾಗಿ ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಡಾ. ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಂಬಿಬಿಎಸ್ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಉನ್ನತ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂದಾದರು. ಸ್ತನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ತಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಕಠಿಣ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಇವರು ಎದುರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕ್ಯಾನ್ಸರ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿ ಕೆಲವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
