Toronto, Canada: Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce (CHCC) hosted an interactive evening with the RSS Sarasanghachalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat on September 1, 2026 in Toronto, Canada.
Titled Dharma & Enterprise, the program brought together business leaders, former government leaders,bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and community members for a conversation on values-driven leadership andresponsible enterprise.
The program opened with an introduction to CHCC’s vision, mission and work since its founding in 2021,followed by an address from Dr. Bhagwat on the place of Dharma in ethical leadership. Drawing adistinction, he returned to throughout the evening, he told the room: “Dharma is not religion. Dharma is a law of sustenance.”On the question of commercial success and social responsibility, he was direct about the place of profit:“Profit is a must. It should never run in loss. But the purpose of profit and the way we earn the profit isunder the discipline of Dharma.”
The centrepiece of the evening was an extended question-and-answer period, drawing on questionssubmitted in advance and taken live from the floor. Topics included the balance between purpose and profit,how leaders and businesses determine what is “enough,” the qualities of leadership, whether economicdevelopment can succeed without social and cultural foundations, recovery from business failure, and theresponsibilities of the current generation toward the next. Asked how businesses can ensure artificial intelligence serves people rather than the reverse.
Dr. Bhagwat answered: “We have to be master of everything that we create. Otherwise, it will be Frankenstein.” He explained that technology should be pursued, but that it must remain humane, comparing it to a knife that may be wielded by a surgeon or by a gangster. In his closing reflection, Dr. Bhagwat drew the address and the discussion together, returning to his centralpoint that Dharma belongs to no single country and is owed to the whole of society.
