Bhubaneshwar, Orissa: The Sangh Parivar on Sunday paid homage to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his 122nd birth anniversary.
The city unit of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Scheduled Caste Morcha of the State unit BJP paid floral tributes to the great leader who was an eminent jurist, political leader and philosopher. Ambedkar was also the Chairman of the drafting committee of Indian
Constitution.
After offering floral tributes, Sri V Bhagaiah, Akhila Bharatiya Boudhik Pramukh (head of RRS intellectual cell), addressed a gathering of RSS activists. He described Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, as a rare personality who fought against untouchability and social discrimination.
Born into a poor Mahar (considered an untouchable caste) family, Ambedkar campaigned against social discrimination and the caste system.
Sangh organised a separate meeting which was attended by Bhagaiah, retired IAS officer Jogendra Patra, RSS state secretary Jagdish Khadanga and others.
