Kodigehalli, Tumakuru is a liquor free village

6th July 2020: Kodigehalli a village in the district of Tumakuru, Karnataka boasts as a village where liquor is completely prohibited. The orders of prohibition comes out of the villagers who were determined to do it with the help of local police. During the time of national lockdown all the alcohol shops were closed.

Once Karnataka decided the opening up of liquor shops in the state in the early weeks of May, the state of Andhra still continued prohibition of liquor sales. The people of Andhra came to Kodigehalli to buy liquour. Understanding the dynamics of Covid19, the spread from other states and also being conscious of the health of the poor the villagers voluntarily shut down all the shops in the village selling liquor. The villagers in the video said that there were drunkards who were ready to pay the heavy price for liqour leaving at lurch the condition of their families and such a decision was the need of the hour to save the families and the poor.

The villagers also said that they will continue the shutting down of the shops even post corona days which would only make it a better village free of drunkards and problems associated.

Kodigehalli stands as an excellent example for a positive development brought in by the villagers to make it a liquor free village
